Water standing at the bottom of basement stairs during a heavy summer storm
Urgent help

When a wall moves or the basement floods

Most foundation trouble moves slowly. Some does not: a basement wall that leans more by the day, a crack that opens suddenly with doors jamming, or water pouring in during a storm. Those calls get a callback within minutes.

What counts as urgent

  • A basement wall that is visibly leaning in further, or blocks that have shifted
  • A large new crack with doors or windows suddenly jamming
  • Water coming into the basement faster than it can be cleared
  • A sump pump that has stopped during heavy rain
  • A chimney or porch pulling away from the house

What to do right now

  1. Stay clear of a wall that is moving. Do not stand in front of it or try to push it back.
  2. Stay out of standing water near outlets, the furnace or the water heater. Shut off power to the basement at the breaker only if you can reach it without stepping in water.
  3. Move what you can from the water's path, and take photos for the insurer.
  4. Call (314) 932-9816. Phone answered 24/7, wet spring or dry August.

What we do first

For a moving wall, the first visit is about making it safe: temporary shoring set against the wall to stop it going further, then a permanent plan. For flooding, the first job is getting the water out and the pump running, then working out why it got in. The full repair is priced in writing once the emergency is under control.

Storm nights. When a big system stalls over the region, many basements flood at once. Calls are answered and booked in order of how dangerous the situation is.

Questions we hear about emergency foundation repair

Can you come out tonight?

Every call gets answered and a callback within minutes for urgent cases. How fast a crew reaches you depends on the storm and the number of calls; we will give you an honest time.

Will insurance cover an emergency repair?

It depends on the policy and the cause. Many policies exclude settlement and groundwater. Take photos and call your insurer early. See our insurance guide.

Is temporary shoring a permanent fix?

No. It stops further movement until the wall is anchored, braced or rebuilt.

Seeing a crack you did not see last year?

Call or send the form. An inspector measures the house, explains what is moving and why, and puts the repair and its price on paper before anything is dug.
